How You Can Walk Alongside Survivors of Human Trafficking
The media and pop culture often sensationalize “rescuing” a person from human trafficking. But if we’re honest, sometimes we gravitate to those stories so much because they make the “the rescuer” the hero. And often these stories are action-packed and full of drama so of course, they’re riveting. While escaping from the clutches of human trafficking is undoubtedly a crucial and commendable step, it is essential to recognize that leaving a human trafficking situation is only the first step.
Justice doesn’t stop at ending the crime of trafficking. It works beyond the violation, empowering survivors to move past their exploitation and live the lives they choose for themselves.
Human trafficking survivors who are working on their own healing are the true heroes. It takes such courage to work through trauma and challenge unhealthy generational patterns. This healing process doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long process with wins and setbacks, just like any other worthwhile journey.
Human trafficking work is holistic and requires support for the long haul. It’s so much more than a person leaving a trafficking situation. Trafficking survivors are resilient but require long-term support in their healing journeys. That’s why we are launching the Alongside Campaign.
We are asking our supporters to walk alongside survivors of human trafficking as they work toward a thriving future.
As the year draws to a close, many individuals and organizations are reflecting on the spirit of generosity and considering the impact they can make through end-of-the-year charitable donations. If you are interested in taking advantage of tax incentives associated with charitable contributions, walking alongside survivors with financial support as they heal and thrive will make a lasting impact.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 before December 31, 2023.
Here is what your donation will accomplish:
$25 = A week of breakfasts for one survivor
$50 = 10 hygiene bags for outreach to victims living on the street
$100 = 1 trauma therapy session
$300 = Dinner for unhoused youth at the Harbour for 1 week
$500 = Transportation for victim fleeing her trafficker to get to New Mexico Dream Center
$1000 = Rent for 1 apartment for a survivor for 1 month
A donation of any kind is so very appreciated. However, giving monthly is the best way to provide ongoing support as we walk alongside human trafficking survivors for the long haul.
