Adopt a Room at the Eliza Jane Project
The New Mexico Dream Center has exciting news. We have recently acquired an 8-bedroom rental facility to house trafficking survivors as they transition from their situation into the next season of their life. This home will be staffed 24/7 and will have constant security.
This home, dubbed the Eliza Jane Project, is the first of its kind in New Mexico.
There are no other fully staffed residential housing options for trafficking survivors in our entire state.
Here’s where you come in! We want these eight bedrooms to be set up like studio apartments. There’s nothing quite like a place of your own to call home with all your own things.
Your friends, family, co-workers, or church group can apply to adopt a room in this new house!
We’ll give you all the details you need to furnish and decorate a room for one of our clients. What a gift to welcome someone into a cozy space that belongs just to them.
You’ll get to tour the facility in on August 7, make a plan with your team, and then spend the month of August gathering materials in order to move in on August 26 and 27. It’s all in preparation for the big reveal on August 28. We’ll award each room a superlative and highlight it on social media to celebrate a job well done in honor of these survivors.
Why the Eliza Jane Project?
The project is named after the homeowner’s mother, Eliza Jane Carwile Skinner (1941-2007). Having been born into poverty on the plains of west Texas, Eliza Jane lived most of her life in New Mexico where, as a mother of 3, she became a relentless advocate for those who could not speak up for themselves. She co-founded and later became a board member of an organization that continues to help children and adults living with disabilities live active and productive lives. Her dedication to standing up for those with little opportunity was and still is an inspiration to many. In our efforts to serve victims of human trafficking, we realize that it is people like Eliza Jane who paved the road before us to be relentless advocates for those who society overlooks.

Update: Many of the rooms have already been reserved. How wonderful! The list below indicates the remaining rooms.
Can’t commit to adopting a whole room right now?
We get it! It’s a big job! If you can’t commit to a whole room, but you’d like to participate, we would be honored to have you donate in other ways. If you have physical objects (furniture, in particular) that could be of use, please contact Emma at ehines@nmdreamcenter.org. Or if you’re able to donate monetarily, please use the link below.
